After the first basket of the game by the Boilermakers women's basketball team, it never lost the lead. The Boilermakers defeated Seattle University, 69-38, in Mackey Arena for their first game of the BTI Classic. Head coach Sharon Versyp knew the team started off slow but was pleased in the way the team played.

It's great to get out and get a win tonight and to be able to build some confidence for our group.   -Sharon Versyp

The Big Ten is changing its women's basketball conference scheduling format from 18 games to 16 for the 2010-2011 season, and the coaches are relieved. As it is set up now, each Big Ten team plays home and away with nine of the 11 Big Ten teams, and play the remaining two teams once. This season, Purdue will have a difficult stretch when it has two road games in four days.

I think it’s a very difficult challenge for all of us, because we play the Big Ten/ACC challenge right before that (Dec. 3 @Virginia)   -Sharon Versyp

According to the Purdue athletic ticket office, the women's basketball student section, the Gold Mine, has dropped in membership every year since the 2006-2007 season. In 2006-2007, there were 203 Gold Mine members on hand that witnessed a Boilermaker team that made it to the Sweet Sixteen and lost to No. 1 seed North Carolina, 70-68. This season, there are only 81 Gold Mine members despite the Boilers being preseason ranked No. 23.

The Gold Mine has been great for women’s basketball for many years   -Sharon Versyp

Sitting on Purdue's bench during last week's exhibition game, KK Houser's leg wouldn't stop shaking. The nerves eventually settled down when the freshman guard entered against Lindsey Wilson College. That won't be a problem today for Houser, who is expected to be in the starting lineup when Purdue opens the 2009-10 women's basketball season against Western Illinois at Mackey Arena.

KK and Fahkara just cause major problems and we have players that are mobile. There are teams we'll have to play zone against but right now, the man-to-man has worked.   -Sharon Versyp
